Evidence from the site
UNESCO describes monumental communal enclosures erected by hunter-gatherer groups in the 10th–9th millennia BCE. Decorated T-shaped limestone pillars include representations of clothing and animals.
An evolving interpretation
The structures are interpreted in relation to social events and rituals. Excavation has also identified non-monumental remains associated with domestic buildings. Functional interpretations can change as excavations add context; uncertainty about use does not negate the archaeological evidence.
